Kansai White Heather Dancers (KWHD) is a Scottish country dance group. It was founded in 1988. Heather is the name of a flower, whose color is usually light purple. Once in a blue moon, we can find white heather. Like a four leaf clover, it is a sign of good luck.
Scottish country dance is a folk dance in Scotland, which has an element of social dancing. We can trace back to 17-18 th century. Usually, a set is formed by 8 people, 4 men and 4 women facing each other. We dance dances composed of various figures.
In 1923, Scottish Country Dance Society was founded. The purpose of the society was to collect informations and preserve the traditional dancing. Later the society is called Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) as Her majesty becomes the patorn of the society.
Kansai White Heather Dancers is an affiliated group of RSCDS.
We meet twice a month regularly.
We have a workshop and
an annual party every year. The musics in the party are live.
We have around 15-30 attendies for regular classes.
The class is usually for mixed level of dancers.
